Research

Research domains

Four domains of expertise, supported by a clinical trials platform and a data hub, working within the clinical context to improve outcomes across the lifespan.

Research domain

Cancer Care

From population-based studies of treatment delays to patient-reported outcome programs and translational cancer biology, this domain works to make cancer care earlier, fairer, and more responsive to what patients actually experience.

Research domain

Older Adult Care

Projects include immersive virtual-reality therapy to reduce stress and pain, understanding repeat emergency department visits, and international work on AI-driven social robots to reduce isolation among older adults from migrant communities.

Research domain

Surgical Sciences

Investigators study optimized medication strategies to reduce post-operative bleeding, and evaluate how operating rooms can cut their ecological footprint through waste management, recycling, and reusable equipment — without compromising care.

Research domain

Primary Care & Health Systems

Research here spans access to perinatal mental health services, strengths-based leadership and work culture in nursing, and the organisation of services so that quality care is accessible and sustainable for the community.

Cross-cutting foundations

Two shared platforms function across all four domains to enhance the centre's mission of academic excellence and scientific progress.

Clinical Trials Platform

Shared infrastructure and expertise that lets every domain design, launch, and run trials to a consistent standard of quality.

Data Hub

Linked data, methodology, and analytics capacity supporting rigorous, reproducible research across the centre.

Highlighted projects

Cancer Care

Women's health in marginalized populations

Investigating disparities in access to timely endometrial cancer care across diverse populations in Quebec, using linked population-based health data to support more equitable care.

Lead researcher
Dr. Talía Malagón
Cancer Care

Bringing patients' voices into everyday cancer care

Québec's largest program using patient-reported outcome measures — short questionnaires that let patients share how they're really doing between visits, so concerns are addressed earlier.

Lead researcher
Dr. Sylvie Lambert
Older Adult Care

AI-powered social robots for older adults

An international project exploring how AI-driven social assistive robots can help older adults, particularly those from migrant communities, stay connected and access health and social services.

Lead researcher
Dr. Harmehr Sekhon
Surgical Sciences

Making surgery more environmentally sustainable

Evaluating ways to reduce the environmental impact of surgery through better waste management, recycling initiatives, and more sustainable operating room practices.

Lead researcher
Dr. Lyndia Dernis
Primary Care & Health Systems

Improving access to perinatal mental health care

Working with providers, patients, and community partners to identify barriers to perinatal mental health services and improve timely support for pregnant and postpartum families.

Lead researcher
Dr. Hannah Schwartz
Older Adult Care

Virtual reality and older adult care

A virtual reality program delivering immersive classical music experiences to reduce stress and pain and improve well-being in older adult patients.

Lead researcher
Dr. Julia Chabot
Clinical trials

Access to treatments not yet part of standard care

The Centre currently conducts more than 30 clinical trials across several areas of cancer care — including lung, pancreatic, gastric, gastroesophageal junction, and breast cancers, as well as lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndromes, and other hematological malignancies.

Our broader portfolio also includes translational studies and patient registries designed to support earlier detection, improve treatment monitoring, and deepen our understanding of cancer outcomes.
